Space History - I found this amazing chart on the MIT Technology Review site. It shows the number of space launches for each country over time, starting with the very first launch ever, to the end of the Space Shuttle era. One thing that immediately struck me was that the often mentioned “US leadership in space flight” people were so worried about losing when the Shuttle retired isn’t as self-evident as some would like to believe.
Actually, the list of nations on that chart is pretty long, and growing every year! Just as all nations share the responsibility of stewardship for planet Earth - and the consequences when any one of them fails in that responsibility - it will take all of humanity’s resources and efforts to make us a multi-planetary society. No matter what flag is on it (although personally I’d prefer it to be none at all), any spaceship that successfully claws its way out of Earth’s gravity is an accomplishment for all of us.

Others held signs proclaiming, “No Glove, No Love,” “Return The Mac,” and cruelly, “Kelly Is A Girl’s Name.” Toronto police has dispatched mounted policemen in riot gear to handle what should be thousands of protesters rioting in downtown Toronto, pleading for the cancellation of the trade.
When reached for comment, Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said he expected McDonald to fill in as a late-innings defensive replacement.

Musyawarah Nasional Asosiasi Asuransi Jiwa Indonesia (AAJI) tahun ini menorehkan tradisi baru dalam pemilihan ketua umum untuk periode 2011-2014. Baru kali ini pemilihan ketua umum dilakukan dengan proses yang sangat demokratis melalui mekanisme pemungutan suara (voting) oleh 49 perusahaan asuransi jiwa anggota AAJI.
Selain itu, masing-masing kandidat ketua umum AAJI juga diminta menyampaikan visi dan misinya di depan para anggota yang dilanjutkan dengan debat terbuka. Ini sungguh sangat menarik karena kesadaran para nggota untuk membawa biduk organisasi menjadi lebih maju semakin meningkat.
Padahal, sebelumnya, banyak yang enggan menjadi ketua karena hal itu dianggap sebagai beban. Tak heran, Evilina F Pietruschika ditampuk menjadi ketua umum AAJI untuk dua periode sebelumnya, yakni pada 2008-2011 dan 2005-2008. Tak bisa dipungkiri, Eveline berhasil membawa organisasi AAJI lebih dikenal publik, memasyarakatkan asuransi, dan juga meningkatkan profesionalisme para agen. Sejak Januari 2010, AAJI telah melakukan kampanye 100% agen berlisensi. AAJI juga telah berhasil menyertifikasi tenaga pemasar asuransi jiwa tanpa kecuali sejak 1 September 2010 melalui lisensi keagenan.
